Raiders 34, Titans 25

FLASH RECAP:
Kerry Collins throws for three touchdowns (two to Jerry Porter) and Oakland’s defense has a season-high six sacks to lead the Raiders to a victory over the Titans before an announced crowd of 69,149 at The Coliseum in Nashville, Tenn. on Oct. 30, 2005.

Porter’s 44-yard TD catch with 3:11 left clinches only the third win for Oakland (3-4) in the past 20 road games dating back to December 2002.

Collins throws first-quarter touchdown passes to Porter (26 yards) and LaMont Jordan (18 yards) as the Raiders build a 17-0 lead. After the Titans narrow the deficit to 17-12, Oakland's Jarrod Cooper recovers a Steve McNair fumble in the end for a touchdown, boosting the Raiders' lead to 24-12 with 5:47 left in the first half.

The Titans (2-6) self-destruct with penalties (9 for 79 yards), missed tackles and a lost fumble that results in Cooper's aforementioned touchdown. The Titans also have an 82-yard punt return for a toucdown erased by penalty.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Oakland
DT Warren Sapp — Has 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble (recovered by S Jarrod Cooper for a TD). Sapp, a.k.a The Mouth Who Roars, had only 2.5 sacks in 2004.
WR Jerry Porter — Two of his six catches go for touchdowns. Porter, who finishes with 123 receiving yards, ends an 8-game scoreless drought with a first-quarter TD catch.
QB Kerry Collins — Is 17-of-29 passing for 238 yards with one interception and three TDs.
RB LaMont Jordan — Has 136 combined yards (67 rushing & 69 receiving) and one TD.
K Sebastien Janikowski — Is 2-for-2 on field goal attempts (22 and 32 yards) and 4-for-4 on PATs and has four touchdbacks on seven kickoffs.

Tennessee
QB Steve McNair — Is 26-of-40 passing for 229 yards and one TD. McNair also picks up 41 rushing yards on 5 carries.
RB Chris Brown — Has a game-high 97 rushing yards, but 38 of those come on a second-quarter TD run. Brown averages a respectable 5.1 yards on 19 carries.
CB Reynaldo Hill — Returns a Kerry Collins interceptions 52 yards for a TD late in the second quarter.
WR Courtney Roby — Has 83 receiving yards on 7 catches. Roby helps rally the Titans with a 19-yard TD catch early in the second quarter.

KEY STAT:
The Raiders have six sacks on Titans QB Steve McNair. Oakland had only 11 sacks in the season’s first six games.

TURNING POINT (S):
With the Raiders clinging to a 27-25 lead, Oakland’s Jerry Porter scores on a 44-yard catch and run with 3:11 remaining. After making the catch, Porter eludes Titans CB Pacman Jones near the sideline and races the final 31 yards into the end zone.

An 82-yard punt return by the Titans’ Pacman Jones is nullified by an unnecessary roughness penalty on teammate Tank Williams. Three plays later, Warren Sapp sacks Steve McNair and forces a fumble that Jarrod Cooper recovers in the end zone for a TD and a 24-12 Oakland lead.

GOAT:
Titans CB Pacman Jones. Jones, the sixth overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft, is beaten for two TD catches by the Raiders’ Jerry Porter. On both TDs, Jones misses tackles as Porter turns medium-distance receptions into long scoring plays.

BY THE NUMBERS:
3: Raiders’ road victories the past 20 regular-season games.
8: Kerry Collins TD passes the last two games against the Titans. Collins equalled his career high with 5 TD passes against Tennesssee in Oakland's 40-35 victory on Dec. 19, 2004.
17: Oakland first-quarter points.
181: Oakland total yards on its first three possessions as the Raiders built a 17-0 lead.

THEY SAID IT:
"This game should have been over in the first half. Easily. . . . This is not something we can do against a team like Kansas City, Denver or San Diego."

Raiders RB LaMont Jordan

"We dig ourselves a hole and we jump in,'' linebacker Keith Bulluck said. "And then the other team fills it in on us.''

Titansd LB Keith Bulluck

"I started checking IDs in our secondary. I don’t think any of them are old enough to be playing."

Raiders coach Norv Turner

DID YOU KNOW?:
The Raiders win their first game in the state of Tennessee in four tries. Oakland lost to the Titans in Memphis in 1997 and dropped games in Nashville in 1999 and 2003.

The Titans’ 2-6 record is the franchise's worst start since 1994, when the then Houston Oilers went 2-14. Coach Jack Padree was fired after 10 games (1-9) and replaced by Jeff Fisher.
