The Raiders opened their season with a dreadful 42-0 loss to San Diego on a Monday night. Oakland's Andrew Walter is 16-of-35 passing for 166 yards. Walter is sacked five times in the first quarter, including on three successive plays. On a rain-drenched night in Seattle, the reigning NFC champion Seahawks (5-3) build a 10-0 first-quarter lead on Seneca Wallace's 22-yard touchdown pass to Deion Branch and the first of three Josh Brown field goals. Defensive end Tyler Brayton caps Oakland's abysmal performance when he's ejected for kneeing Seattle tight end Jerramy Stevens in the groin at the end of a play during the game's final two minutes.
