Chad Pennington throws for a touchdown, Leon Washington runs for another score and Mike Nugent kicks three field goals to help New York (10-6) clinch an AFC wild-card playoff berth with a victory over Oakland (2-14) before an announced crowd of 78,039 at Giants Stadium on Dec. 31, 2006. With their ninth straight loss, the reeling Raiders set a franchise record for most losses (14) in a season. They drop one more game than the 1962 Oakland team, which went 1-13. The Raiders also have a franchise-low 168 points. The previous record was 213 points, set in 1962 during a 14-game season. 'When you're 2-14, you've got to do something different," free safety Stuart Schweigert tells reporters after the game "You can't keep doing what you're doing because it hasn't worked." Oakland has only 209 total yards against New York and coughs up three turnovers. The Raiders finish the season with a league-high 46 turnovers. With two sacks allowed against the Jets, the Raiders have a league-worst 72 sacks. The Raiders finish 0-8 on the road, their second winless season in away games the past four years. Oakland has dropped its past 11 road games.

QB Chad Pennington — Is 22-of-30 passing for 157 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions for a 96.1 efficient rating. K Mike Nugent — Is 3-for-3 on field goal attempts from 35, 22 and 35 yards.
K Sebastian Janikowski — His 35-yard kick is the 156th field goal of his Raiders career, tying him with George Blanda for second place on the franchise's all-time list. RB Justin Fargas — Has a game-high 79 rushing yards on 17 carries but rushes for only 4 yards on 1 attempt during the second half.

The Raiders are the only team in the league that doesn't score a touchdown on an opening drive during the 2006 season. With a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter, Sebastian Janikowski ties George Blanda for second place on the Raiders career field goal list. Blanda made 156 field goals for Oakland from 1967 to 1975. Chris Bahr (1980-1988) holds the club record of 162 field goals. The Raiders have dropped three straight and four of five to the Jets.
