Jets 26, Raiders 10
FLASH RECAP:
For the Raiders, this is a three-hour exhibit of futility.
Thirteen penalties.
Six sacks.
Four turnovers.
It all adds up to another Raiders debacle.
Two Jets third-stringers — quarterback Brooks Bollinger and running
back
Cedric Houston — help New York (3-10) defeat the Raiders (4-9) before an
announced crowd of 77,561 at Giants Stadium on Dec. 11, 2005.
The Raiders' third straight loss comes against a reeling Jets team that had dropped its previous seven games.
John Abraham has two sacks and two forced fumbles for New York, which limits Oakland
to
189 total yards. The Raiders average an anemic 3.7 yards on 49 offensive plays.
Bollinger throws for one touchdown and Houston rushes for another as New York exceeds its combined scoring (25 points) of the past four games. Houston has 89 of the Jets' 184 rushing yards.
Raiders quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo, making his second career start,
throws two interceptions and coughs up two fumbles. His receivers keep
the
Oakland offense sputtering with dropped passes.
PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:
New York
DE John Abraham — Has two sacks and two forced fumbles, which are
recovered
by Jets teammates. The fumbles lead to 10 points as New York builds a 19-3 lead.
QB Brooks Bollinger — Is 16-of-24 passing for 119 yards, one touchdown
and no interceptions. The third-stringer also rushes for 56 yards on 14
carries.
RB Cedric Houston — Has a game-high 84 rushing yards on 28 carries. His
2-yard touchdown run with 1:56 remaining clinches victory for New York.
K Mike Nugent — Is 4-for-4 on field goal attempts. Nugent made only 13 field goal (in 18 attempts) in the season's first 12 games.
K CB Ty Law — His second-quarter interception sets up the second of four
Mike
Nugent field goals.
Oakland
DE Derrick Burgess — Has two sacks, giving him 13 for the season.
WR Jerry Porter — Scores on a 20-yard reception with 9:15 remaining.
His
three other receptions are for a combined 16 yards.
GOAT:
Raiders coach Norv Turner. It’s the head coach’s responsibility to have
his
team ready to play. The Raiders lack focus and motivation against an
injury-depleted Jets team that had lost nine of its previous 10 games.
TURNING POINT:
The Jets score 10 straight points to build a 19-3 lead after recovering two
third-quarter fumbles by Marques Tuiasosopo.
KEY STAT(S):
Making only his second career start in five NFL seasons, Raiders QB Marques
Tuiasosopo throws two interceptions, loses two fumbles and is sacked six times.
The Raiders average 2.6 yards on 26 passing attempts.
BY THE NUMBERS:
0-8: Oakland’s record this season when LaMont Jordan has less than 20
rushing attempts. Jordan rushed for 49 yards on 14 carries against the
Jets
6: Raiders sacks allowed, all in the second half.
8-20:Norv Turner’s win-loss record as Raiders coach.
26: 26: Points by the Jets, who scored 143 points in the season’s first 12
games.
THEY SAID IT:
"We didn’t just get beat by the Jets, we got smushed. I’m feeling
pretty
low. Anybody that even showed up to the game should feel embarrassed
about
this. That was terrible.”
Raiders DT Ed Jasper
"You can’t win games coming in against a team that’s ranked 29th in
rushing
and only run the ball 14 times. You’re not going to win games that
way."
Raiders RB LaMont Jordan
DID YOU KNOW?:
With the loss to the Jets, the Raiders are assured of their third
straight
losing season — equaling a franchise record set from 1960 to 1962.
Brooks Bollinger’s 56 rushing yards breaks the Jets’ single-game
franchise
record for rushing yards by a quarterback. Richard Todd held the
previous
record of 53 yards, set against New Orleans on Dec. 14, 1980.
