Jets 27, Raiders 24

FLASH RECAP:
Another game, another loss. The beat goes on.

Desperate for its first victory in over a month, Oakland (2-7) blows an 11-point lead in the final quarter as New York rallies for an overtime win before an announced crowd of 51,909 at Network Associates Coliseum on Nov. 9, 2003. Doug Brien's 38-yard field goal 5 minutes, 56 seconds into overtime caps the comeback by the Jets (3-6).

With New York trailing 24-16, QB Chad Pennington throws a 3-yard touchdown pass to FB Jerald Sowell with 2:18 left in regulation. Pennington then forces the extra period when he completes a pass to TE Anthony Becht on the two-point conversion.

The Raiders argue that Becht doesn’t cross the goal line after the catch, but the play is upheld following an instant replay challenge.

After the Jets (3-6) win the coin toss before the start of overtime, Pennington drives New York 54 yards in 12 plays to set up Brien's game-winning kick.

The Raiders build a 21-10 lead in the first half, scoring two offensive touchdowns for the first time in five games. Phillip Buchanon returns a punt 78 yards for a touchdown, Zack Crockett scores on 1-yard run and third-string QB Rick Mirer throws a 2-yard TD pass to Jerry Porter.

With their fifth straight loss, the Raiders have their worst start since opening the 1964 season 1-7-1. Those Raiders finished 5-7-2.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

New York
QB Chad Pennington - Completes his final seven passes (including a two-point conversion) on the Jets' last two possessions that result in a game-tying touchdown and game-winning field goal. He finishes with 269 passing yards and two TDs.
K Doug Brien - Is 2-of-2 on field goal attemps, including the game-winner from 38 yards out in overtime.
WR Santana Moss - Has six catches for 146 yards (a whopping 24.3 yards average) and a touchdown. Moss helps set up Doug Brien's field goal in overtime with 25-yard rush on a double reverse to the Oakland 45.
FB Jerald Sowell - Reduces New York's deficit to 24-22 on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Chad Pennington with 1:15 left. On the first play of the five-play drive, Sowell burns Raiders LB Napoleon Harris for a 44-yard catch and run to the Oakland 29.
CB Aaron Beasley - Forces the game-turning fumble (recovered by LB Marvin Jones) by Oakland's Tyrone Wheatley at the New York 7-yard line midway through the third quarter with the Jets trailing 21-10.

Oakland
QB Rick Mirer - Completes 18 of 25 passes for 186 yards and one TD with no interceptions in his first NFL start since 1999. His 2-yard pass to Jerry Porter on a fade pattern gives Oakland a 21-10 lead with 34 seconds left in the first half.
RB Tyrone Wheatley - Rushes for a season-high 75 yards on 23 carries, but his third-quarter lost fumble at the New York 7 keeps the Jets in the game. He also has three catches for 39 yards, including a 25-yard reception - his longest since a 26-yarder against San Diego in 1999.
OT Lincoln Kennedy - His blocking helps the Raiders rush for a season-high 169 yards. The 11-year veteran didn't start the previous five games because of a calf injury.
WR Jerry Porter - Scores his first touchdown of the season on a 2-yard pass from Rick Mirer.
CB/PR Phillip Buchanon - His 78-yard punt return provides the Raiders' first score, but he also misses a tackle on Lamont Jordan's 14-yard run that helps set up the Jets' game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
