Jets 19, Raiders 14

Sept. 7, 2014
at MetLife Stadium,
East Rutherford, NJ

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS
New York
Jets defense — The unit allows only 25 rushing yards, 158 total yards, has two sacks and an interception.

RB Chris Ivory — His 71-yard TD run midway through the fourth quarter breaks open what had been a defensive struggle, giving the Jets a 19-7 lead with 8:03 left. Ivory finishes with 102 rushing yards on 10 carries.

QB Geno Smith — Is 23 of 28 passing for 221 yards with a TD and a 96.6 passer rating. His interception and lost fumble during the early going are the only blemishes to an otherwise steady performance.

Oakland
QB Derek Carr — Throws for two touchdowns on 20 of 32 passing for 151 yards and a 94.7 rating in his first NFL regular-season start.

FS Charles Woodson — Has an interception, five solo tackles and a pass defensed.

WR James Jones — His 30-yard TD reception with 1:21 remaining narrows the Raiders' deficit to 19-12.

KEY STATS
Oakland's 158 total yards are the fewest since it gained 124 during a 44-7 loss to the New York Giants on Oct. 11, 2009.
The Raiders average an abysmal 1.7 yards per rush on 15 running plays. The Jets average 6.2 yards on 34 rushes.
Darren McFadden (4 carries, 15 yards) and Maurice Jones-Drew (9 carries, 11 yards) combine for 26 rushing yards on 13 carries against the Jets.
The Jets limit the Raiders to three third-down conversions in 12 attempts.

THEY SAID IT
“I need to do a better job of putting us in better situations. Now I have to do a better job of making the correct calls. You can put it all on me."

Raiders QB Derek Carr

"We've got high expectations. We can't shoot ourselves in the foot and we can't make excuses for it."

Jets QB Geno Smith

BY THE NUMBERS
1-11: Raiders' record in their past 12 season openers. Oakland's lone win during this dubious streak came in 2011 at Denver.
5: Receptions by Oakland's Rod Streater, including a 12-yard TD catch during the first quarter.
10.2: Yards per rush for New York running back Chris Ivory on 10 carries. He finishes with a game-high 102 rushing yards.
11: Jets' penalties for 105 yards compared to the Raiders' four infractions for 20 yards.

DID YOU KNOW?:
The Raiders lose their 14th consecutive game in the Eastern time zone. Oakland has not won a game in the ETZ since Dec. 6, 2009 when Bruce Gradkowski threw for three TDS in a 27-24 win at Pittsburgh.
The Raiders' Charles Woodson joins Darrell Green (19) as the only players with an interception in at least 17 consecutive seasons.
The Raiders are 2-15 in 17 road games under third-year head coach Dennis Allen.
