Raiders 20, Eagles 10

FLASH RECAP:
Oakland (5-1) dominates Philadelphia in a battle of divison leaders before an announced crowd of 65,342 fans at Veterans Stadium on Oct. 28, 2001. The Raiders rush for a season-high 202 yards and control the football for forty minutes, nine seconds. The Eagles (3-3) are held to 195 yards total offense, surrender four sacks and convert only one of 11 third-down tries. Running back Charlie Garner, one of five former Eagles on the Raiders roster, scores Oakland's first touchdown on a 2-yard run. Zack Crockett has a 1-yard touchdown run and Sebastian Janikowski kicks field goals of 42 and 32 yards for Oakland, which extends its winning streak to four games. Donovan McNabb completes 12 of 27 passes for 133 yards and gains 30 yards on 10 rushes for the Eagles.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Oakland
RB Charlie Garner -- Rushes for a game-high 77 yards on 21 carries and catches three passes for 18 yards. His 22-yard run to the Eagles' 5 sets up Zack Crockett's game-clinching touchdown in the third quarter.
CBs Eric Allen & Charles Woodson -- They hold Philadelphia's starting wide receivers to two catches for nine yards. The tight coverage of Allen and Woodson is the main reason the Eagles average an abysmal 3.8 yards on 27 passes.
QB Rich Gannon -- Engineers four scoring drives, completes 17 of 26 passes for 158 yards and doesn't have a turnover in a hostile environment. The Philadelphia native also rushes for 16 yards on three carries.
P Shane Lechler -- Places four of five punts inside the Eagles' 13.
OLB Elijah Alexander -- Contributes a sack and forced fumble on the same play.
Philadelphia
RB Duece Staley scores on a 3-yard run with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter. Staley helps set up a Philadelphia field goal late in the first half by eluding an Anthony Dorsett tackle attempt and gaining 29 yards on a swing pass from Donovan McNabb.
MLB Jeremiah Trotter -- Contributes seven solo tackles before leaving the game early in the second half because of an ankle injury.
OLB Mike Caldwell -- Has the Eagles' only sack and six solo tackles.
PR Brian Mitchell -- His 31-yard punt return ignites the Eagles to their only touchdown.

GOAT(S) OF THE GAME:
Eagles wide receivers. Todd Pinkston, James Thrash and Na Brown each drop a pass. Pinkston and Thrash, Philadelphia's starting wideouts, combine for two catches (both by Thrash) for nine yards. Before the Eagles march for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, their wide receivers contribute three catches for 20 yards.

TURNING POINT:
On first down from the Oakland 46, Eagles QB Donovan McNabb fumbles after being sacked by Raiders OLB Elijah Alexander. The football is recovered by OT Jon Ruynan at the Philadelphia 16 for a 38-yard loss. After the Eagles punt, the Raiders drive 80 yards in 15 plays for their first touchdown (on a 2-yard run by Charlie Garner) to take a 7-0 lead.

KEY DRIVE:
The Raiders move 63 yards in six plays for a touchdown to build a 20-3 advantage. Rich Gannon throws a 32-yard pass to Jerry Rice to the Eagles' 27. On the next play, Charlie Garner rushes 22 yards to the Philadelphia 5. After a defensive holding penalty on the Eagles' Troy Vincent on third-and-goal from the two, Zack Crockett scores on a 1-yard run with 7:29 left in the third quarter.

BY THE NUMBERS:

  • 2: Rushing touchdowns allowed by Philadelphia. The Eagles surrended only one rushing touchdown in their first five games this season.
  • 4: Punts by Oakland's Shane Lechler inside the Philadelphia 13.
