Cowboys 3, Raiders 0

FLASH RECAP:
Oakland does not score against visiting Dallas in Dennis Allen's first game as Raiders coach before an announced crowd of 50,403 at O.co Coliseum on Aug. 13, 2012.

Dan Bailey's 33-yard field goal with 8:02 remaining in the third period accounts for the game's only points in the preseason opener for both teams.

The Raiders' Sebastien Janikowski has a 47-yard field goal attempt blocked early in the second period by the Cowboys' Josh Brent and Oakland's Eddy Carmona is wide right on a 36-yard field goal try with 6:44 remaining.

Despite Oakland's loss, new head coach Allen sees positives on defense and discipline. The Raiders allow only 202 total yards, including 54 rushing yards, and commit only five penalties for 37 yards.

The Raiders are shut out in a home preseason game for only the second time in franchise history. In 2008, the Arizona Cardinals defeated Oakland 24-0 on Aug. 23.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Dallas
DE Ben Bass — Has a sack, two tackles for loss and four unassisted tackles.

S Gerald Sensabaugh — Intercepts a Carson Palmer pass at the Cowboys 6 and returns it 31 yards.

S Mana Silva — His 36-yard interception return of a Terrelle Pryor pass to the Oakland 44 seals victory for the Cowboys with 36 seconds left.

Oakland
RB Darren McFadden — Accounts for 20 rushing yards and 18 receiving yards on three touches on the game's opening drive. McFadden contributes a 4-yard run, an 18-yard reception after he lines up as a wideout and a 16-yard run on the Raiders' first three plays.

DT Tommy Kelly — Has one of Oakland's two sacks.

WR Rod Streater — Rookie free agent has six catches for 66 yards. The former Temple player had only 19 catches as a college senior.

QB Terrelle Pryor — Has 21 rushing yards on six carries and is 8 of 15 passing for 50 yards. He shows an ability to escape the pass rush and avoid sacks when the pass pocket is breaking down.

THEY SAID IT:
"I thought our first-team defense played exceptionally well. I was pleased with the way Darren McFadden played in the first quarter. We got a lot of young guys a lot of reps, but the execution is not where it needs to be, and we need to get better."

Raiders coach Dennis Allen

"I'm angry at myself. I don't think I played well. I thought Matt (Leinart) played great. I thought Carson (Palmer) played great. I thought everybody else on the team played great."

Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor

BY THE NUMBERS:
2: Dropped passes by the Raiders' Jacoby Ford during the first quarter.
16: Raiders' rushing yards allowed during the first half, including only 3 by Oakland's first-team defense.
40.2: Average yards on five punts by Oakland's Marquette King, including a 60-yarder.

DID YOU KNOW?:
Former Raiders coach Jon Gruden greeted fans in the Black Hole before announcing the game for ESPN. Way to go, Chucky! Gruden had a 40-28 overall win-loss record (2-2 playoffs) in four seasons (1998-2001) with Oakland.

The Raiders have lost five consecutive preseason games. Their last exhibition victory was a 27-24 win over visiting Seattle on Sept. 2, 2010.
