Raiders 16, Chiefs 13

FLASH RECAP:
Sebastian Janikowski kicks a 36-yard field goal 2:13 into overtime to give visiting Oakland a victory over Kansas City before an announced crowd of 70,803 at Arrowhead Stadium on Dec. 24, 2011.

The Raiders (8-7) end a three-game losing streak despite committing 15 penalties, including 10 in the first half, for 92 yards.

The Chiefs (6-9) deadlock the score at 13-all on a Dwayne Bowe 3-yard touchdown catch followed by a Ryan Succop PAT with 1:02 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders' Richard Seymour blocks Succop's 49-yard field goal attempt on the final play of regulation. Seymour also blocked a Succop 49-yard attempt on the final play of the first half.

On the first play of overtime, Carson Palmer completes a 53-yard pass to Darrius Heyward-Bay, giving Oakland a first down at the Kansas City 23. After two Michael Bush runs gain five yards to the 18 yard line, Janikowski nails the game winner, his third field goal of the game.

"I don’t know what it is about us," Raiders strong safety Tyvon Branch tells reporters after Oakland's fifth straight win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. "We just find a way to make it interesting. It was a great win. We overcame a lot. We all stuck together. We all kept believing."

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Oakland
K Sebastian Janikowski — Is 3 of 4 on field goal attempts, including the game winner from 36 yards out 2:13 into overtime.

WR Darrius Heyward-Bay — His 53-yard reception on the first play of overtime sets up Sebastian Janikowski's winning field goal. Heyward-Bey finishes with four catches for 90 yards.

DT Richard Seymour — Blocks a 49-yard field goal attempt by the Chiefs' Ryan Succop on the final play of regulation, Seymour's second blocked field goal of the game.

Kansas City
QB Kyle Orton — Is 21 of 36 passing for 300 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

WR Dwayne Bowe — His 3-yard TD catch with 1:02 left in regulation reduces Oakland's lead to 13-12. He finishes with a game-high six catches for 80 yards.

LB Derrick Johnson — Has one of two Carson Palmer interceptions, two passes defensed and seven total tackles.

KEY STATS:
The Chiefs outgain the Raiders 435 to 308 in total yards and have twice as many first downs (26 to 13).

The Raiders have 15 penalties for 92 yards, but only five infractions after halftime. They don't commit any penalties in the final 13:54 of regulation and overtime.
The Raiders' most galling penalty is a delay of game infraction that negates a 36-yard touchdown on a shovel pass from holder Shane Lechler to tight end Brandon Myers during the second quarter. On the next play, Sebastian Janikowski hits the crossbar on a 59-yard field goal attempt — his first miss at Arrowhead since 2005.
The Raiders don't allow a sack against a Chiefs defense that had 18 sacks the previous five games.
Oakland's Shane Lechler has a 76-yard punt into the end zone from the Raiders’ 24-yard line, the third longest punt of his career. His two longest punts — 80 and 76 yards — were also this season. He has 11 punts of 70 or more yards during his NFL career

THEY SAID IT:
"An ugly win is better than a pretty loss."

Raiders QB Carson Palmer

“We had an opportunity to win the game. Those guys came up big. I mean, blocking two field goals — what’s the odds of blocking two field goals in a big game like this? More credit to those guys.”

Chiefs LB Tamba Hali
