FLASH RECAP: LaDainian Tomlinson scores two touchdowns and San Diego has five sacks as the Chargers beat Oakland for a 13th straight time before an announced crowd of 67,016 at Qualcomm Stadium on Nov. 1, 2009. The Chargers (4-3) build a 21-7 first-half lead on two Tomlinson TDs and an 8-yard scoring pass from Philip Rivers to Vincent Jackson. Oakland's Justin Fargas scores on a 3-yard run and Sebastian Janikowski kicks field goals of 48, 41 and 28 yards. The Raiders (2-6) have only 180 total yards, 81 passing and 99 rushing. Oakland is held to a touchdown or less the past seven games. Oakland hasn't beaten San Diego since Week 4 of the 2003 season. The Raiders have dropped their past eight games at Qualcomm, including a 48-21 loss to Tampa Bay in Super Bowl XXXVII in January 2003. “We used to measure ourselves against the Raiders. When they were real good and when they went to the Super Bowl, we measured ourselves against these guys," Tomlinson tells reporters after Oakland seventh straight road loss to San Diego. "I remember when we beat them in overtime (in Oakland, 2002). That was a turning point that proved to us that we can be an elite team in this league.” The Raiders hold the Chargers to 100 rushing yards on 30 carries. Oakland allowed 316 rushing yards in a 38-0 loss to the New York Jets the previous week. PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:
QB Philip Rivers — Throws for 249 yards on 16-of-29 passing and a TD with an interceptions for a 93.6 efficiency rating WR Vincent Jackson — Contributes eight catches for 103 yards a TD.
RB Justin Fargas — Has 59 of the Raiders' 99 rushing yards on 18 carries and a TD. DE Matt Shaughnessy — Has a sack, two tackles for loss and five solo tackles.
KEY STATS:
The Raiders have only 81 passing yards, the third time in eight games this season they've had under 100 passing yards. San Diego LB Shawne Merriman gets his first sacks since the 2007 season. He missed the final 15 regular-season games in 2008 and two playoff contests because of knee surgery.
THEY SAID IT:
Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson
"We've had two good opportunities (against San Diego) this year. Are we closer? Yes. But you don't take anything from it until you get over the hump."
Raiders coach Tom Cable
"It gets to a point where moral victories aren’t enough. You can't settle for anything less than winning. We have to find a way to make the plays that make the difference. We have to get to where we overcome the mistakes and find a way to win. We have to desperately search for a way to get over the hump.”
Raiders RB Justin Fargas
