The Raiders suffer a home exhibition shutout loss for the first time in franchise history. Hightower scores on a 14-yard run and Arrington rushes for a 67-yard TD to lift the Cardinals into a 17-0 lead. Brian St. Pierre's 18-yard pass to Leonard Pope caps the scoring. Oakland starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell is 14-of-28 passing for 140 yards with one interception in the first three quarters. He opens the game with four completions for 37 yards. Arizona starter Matt Leinart is 4-of-12 passing for 24 yards with three interceptions before being replaced by Kurt Warner late in the first half. The Cardinals out-gain the Raiders, 373 to 165, in total yards. Oakland wide receiver Drew Carter and fullback Oren O'Neal sustain season-ending knee injuries during the first quarter. Before the game, the late Gene Upshaw is honored with a video tribute and a moment of silence. The Coliseum crowd responds with a thunderous roar for the Pro Football Hall of Fame guard who played for the Raiders from 1967 to 1981. Upshaw, the longtime executive director of the NFL Players Association, died Aug. 17, 2008 from pancreatic cancer at age 63.
