49ers 34, Raiders 20

FLASH RECAP:
Oakland seals its 10th straight defeat with an avalanche of mistakes in the second half against San Francisco.

Alex Smith throws for three touchdowns and San Francisco’s defense forces four turnovers to lead the 49ers (2-3) to a comeback victory over winless Oakland before an announced crowd of 68,368 at Monster Park on Oct. 8, 2006.

The Raiders (0-4) surrender 24 unanswered points after leading 13-7 entering the third quarter.

Defensive end Melvin Oliver returns an Andrew Walter fumble (on a lateral) 12 yards for a victory-clinching touchdown, giving the 49ers a 31-13 lead with 10:30 remaining.

The 49ers have four interceptions (three by cornerback Walt Harris) and a blocked punt that leads to the go-ahead score, all in the second half. San Francisco didn’t force any interceptions during its first four games this season.

Making his second NFL start, Walter has a Jekyll-and-Hyde performance. After throwing for 168 yards in the first half, he has only 26 passing yards in the second half with two interceptions and the aforementioned lost lateral.

GOAT:
Raiders QB Andrew Walter. After throwing for 138 yards and a touchdown in the first half, Walter is dreadful in the second half — 4-of-8 passing for 26 yards with two interceptions. Walter also throws a lateral intended for Lamont Jordan that is returned for a touchdown, giving the 49ers a 31-13 lead with 10:30 to play.
