Punter Glenn Pakulak signed a reserve/future contract, the Raiders announced Jan. 5, 2011.

The Raiders announced on Jan. 4 their decision not to exercise the two-year, $5 million option on coach Tom Cable's contract for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He led the Raiders to an 8-8 record in the 2010 season, Oakland's first non-losing season since winning the AFC championship in the 2002 season. In 2010, the Raiders became the first team in NFL history to go 6-0 in division games and not make the playoffs. The Raiders were 2-8 outside the AFC West.

Cable, 46, had a 17-27 record in two plus seasons as Raiders' head coach since replacing the fired Lane Kiffin four games into the 2008 seasons. Cable joined the Raiders in 2007 as offensive line coach.

The Raiders on Jan. 4, 2011 announced the signing of running back Louis Rankin, wide receivers Shaun Bodiford and Damola Adeniji, tight end Kevin Brock, fullback Manase Tonga, guards Alex Parsons and Roy Schuening, cornerback Joe Porter, defensive end Tommie Hill and linebacker Quentin Scott to reserve/future contracts.

Punter Danny Baugher released from Oakland's practice squad, the Raiders announced Dec. 28, 2010.

Former United Football League punter Danny Baugher signed to the Oakland practice squad, the Raiders announced Dec. 22, 2010. Baugher, 26, spent this past season with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL. He led the league with a 44.6-yard gross average and 36.7 net. The former Univedrsity of Arizona player has spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos. To make room for Baugher on their practice squad, the Raiders released linebacker Quentin Scott.

Defensive tackle David Howard signed to the practice squad, the Raiders announced Dec. 15, 2010. Howard, 23, was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL draft. The former Brown University player reportedly was released by the Titans near the end of training camp.

Defensive tackle Kellen Heard signed by the Buffalo Bills from the Raiders practice squad, the Bills announced Dec. 11, 2010.

Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski placed on injured reserve and quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan signed, the Raiders announced Dec. 2, 2010. Gradkowski, 27, sustained a third-degree separation of his right shoulder late in the fourth quarter of Oakland’s 33-17 loss to Miami on Nov. 28. He suffered a similar injury against Arizona on Sept. 26

The moves come a day after Gradkowski told reporters he hoped to resume playing within one to two weeks. By going on injured reserve, he's ineligible to play again this season for the Raiders. Gradkowski finishes the 2010 season with 83 completions in 157 attempts for 1,059 yards, five touchdowns, seven interceptions and a passer rating of 66.3. He started four of seven games he played in.

O’Sullivan, 31, joins his 11th NFL team since being drafted by New Orleans in 2002. He has played in 17 career games, making eight starts for San Francisco in 2008. He was released by San Diego in October.

Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly fined $20,000 for unnecessary roughness on a special teams play when he unnecessarily struck a Pittsburgh Steelers player in the head area, according to published reports Nov. 26, 2010. Kelly drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on a Steelers extra-point attempt with 1:12 to play after Pittsburgh had scored its final touchdown during a 35-3 victory over Oakland on Nov. 21. Kelly reportedly also was docked $5,000 during the 2008 season for a late shove of an opponent in a loss to San Diego.

Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour reportedly fined $25,000 by the NFL on Nov. 22 for striking Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The incident occurred with 1:26 left in the first half of Oakland’s 35-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Nov. 21 following a 22-yard touchown pass from Roethlisberger to Emmanuel Sanders. Seymour drew fines on two occasions during Oakland's 2009 season — $7,500 for pulling the hair of Denver Broncos tackle Ryan Clady and $10,000 for a hit after the whistle against the Cleveland Browns.

Defensive end/linebacker Trevor Scott placed on injured reserve, the Raiders announced Nov. 24, 2010. Scott, who started Oakland's first 10 games this season at defensive end or outside linebacker contributed 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Former Denver Broncos defensive end Jarvis Moss signed, the Raiders announced Nov. 24, 2010. Moss, 26, has 3.5 sacks in 28 career games with the Denver Broncos.

Wide receiver Damola Adeniji re-signed to the Oakland practice squad, the Raiders announced Nov. 16, 2010. The former Oregon State University player was released Nov. 9 after being signed to the practice squad Oct. 27. Adeniji, 23, also spent time with the Raiders during their 2010 training camp.

Middle linebacker Rolando McClain and left guard Robert Gallery fined $7,500 each by the NFL, according to published reports Nov. 5, 2010. McClain was fined for making contact with Seattle Seahawks running back Justin Forsett's helmet and Gallery was fined for unnecessary roughness during Oakland's 33-3 win over Seattle on Oct. 31. It's at least the second fine this season for McClain, who reportedly was fined $5,000 for his body slam of St. Louis Rams receiver Danny Amendola during the second half of Oakland's 16-14 victory on Sept. 19, 2010.

Wide receiver Damola Adeniji signed to the Oakland practice squad and linebacker Alex Joseph released from the practice squad, the Raiders announced Oct. 27, 2010. Adeniji, 22, spent time with Raiders during their 2010 training camp.

Linebacker Bruce Davis II signed to the Raiders' 53-man roster from the 49ers practice squad, the Raiders announced Oct. 5, 2010. Oakland also released cornerback Joey Thomas and defensive tackle Jay Alford. Davis, 25, also spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos before joining the 49ers. Davis' father, Bruce Sr., was an offensive tackle with the Raiders from 1979 to 1987.

Former Temple linebacker Alex Joseph signed to the practice squad, the Raiders announced Sept. 29, 2010. Joseph, 22, spent time in the 2010 training camp of the Green Bay Packers.

Safety Steve Brown and linebacker Quentin Scott signed to the practice squad, the Raiders announced Sept. 23, 2010. Brown, 23, was released after playing in the Raiders' 16-14 win over St. Louis on Sept. 19. Scott, 22, was among the final preseason cuts of the Chicago Bears. The Raiders also announced the release of linebacker Slade Norris from the practice squad.

Fullback Luke Lawton released, the Raiders announced Sept. 20, 2010. Earlier in the day, Lawton, 30, reportedly was reinstated by the NFL after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances. He was suspended for the final two games of the 2009 season and the first two of this season.

Defensive ends Jay Richardson (knee) and Alex Daniels (groin) waived after reaching injury settlements, the Raiders announced Sept. 15, 2010. Both players reportedly suffered injuries during training camp and were released on the final roster cut down before being placed on the injured-reserve list.

Former New York Giants defensive tackle Jay Alford signed and offensive lineman Erik Pears released, the Raiders announced Sept. 8, 2010. Alford, 27, reportedly missed the 2009 regular season after he tore knee ligaments during the exhibition season. He was released by the Giants on Sept. 4, 2010. The former Penn State player had a key sack during the Giants' Super Bowl XLII win over the New England Patriots at the end of the 2007 season.

Tight end Kevin Brock signed to the Raiders practice squad, the team announced Sept. 6, 2010. Brock, 24, reportedly was with with the Dallas Cowboys during their 2010 training camp and he spent time on the practice squads of Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears last season.

Defensive end Jay Richardson, center Chris Morris and wide receiver Todd Watkins are among 21 players released, the Raiders announced Sept. 4, 2010.

Also released are safety Stevie Brown, kicker Swayze Waters, cornerbacks Joey Thomas and Joe Porter, fullback Manase Tonga, wide receiver Shaun Bodiford, safety Jerome Boyd, quarterback Colt Brennan, defensive lineman Chris Cooper, defensive end Alex Daniels, defensive end Greyson Gunheim, defensive tackles Kellen Heard and William Joseph, linebackers David Nixon and Slade Norris, tight end John Owens, and offensive linemen Alex Parsons and Brandon Rodd.

Fullback Luke Lawton is suspended for the first two games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing policy and doesn’t count against the roster.

Eight of Oakland's nine 2010 draft choices made the 53-player regular-season roster. Brown, a seventh-round choice from Michigan, is the only draft pick not to remain. The Raiders' top two draft choices, Alabama linebacker Rolando McLain and Texas defensive end Lamarr Houston, earned starting positions.

Tight end Eric Butler released, the Raiders announced Aug. 31, 2010.

The Raiders on Aug. 30 announced the release of tight end Tony Stewart, receiver Paul Hubbard, guard Allen Smith and fullback Chane Moline.

Quarterback Charlie Frye placed on injury reserve, the Raiders announced Aug. 19, 2010. Frye, 28, reportedly underwent surgery on his right wrist Aug. 18 and is out for the season. The six-year veteran sustained ligament damage in the wrist while falling during a drill Aug. 5. Frye started three games for Oakland during the 2009 season, throwing for 581 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

Tight end Eric Butler signed, the Raiders announced Aug. 19, 2010. Butler, 25, reportedly spent time with the Giants and Colts in 2008 and the Rams in 2009. The former Mississippi State starter has never played in an NFL regular-season game.

Former Raiders running back Justin Fargas signed by the Denver Broncos, the Broncos announced Aug. 11, 2010. Fargas, 30, was released by Oakland on March 6 after he reportedly failed a physical. The former USC star had 3,369 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns during his first seven NFL seasons, all with the Raiders.

Wide receiver Jonathan Holland placed on injured reserve, the Raiders announced Aug. 9, 2010. Holland, 25, reportedly sustained a sprained right ankle Aug. 5 during a passing drill. He was placed on injured reserve after reaching an injury settlement with the team and being released the previous day.

Former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan signed, the Raiders announced Aug. 7, 2010. Brennan, 26, was a sixth-round draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 2008 and a teammate of Oakland starting QB Jason Campbell the past two seasons. He didn't play in any regular-season or playoff games during 2008 and reportedly sat out the following season after undergoing surgery for a hip injury.

Former Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain reportedly signed late on July 28, 2010. McClain, 22, was selected by Oakland with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft. He reportedly received a five-year, $40 million contract that will guarantee him about $23 million.

Former Texas defensive tackle Lamarr Houston signed, the Raiders announced July 26, 2010. Houston, 23, was selected by Oakland during the second round (44th overall) of the 2010 NFL draft.

Former Raiders linebacker Greg Biekert named an assistant coach on defense, the Raiders announced July 27, 2010. Biekert, 41, spent 11 seasons in the NFL, the first nine with the Raiders. Oakland also announced the hiring of Craig Dickenson as assistant special teams coordinator.

Former Michigan safety/linebacker Stevie Brown signed, the Raiders announced July 22, 2010. Brown, 23, was selected by Oakland during the seventh round (251st overall) of the 2010 NFL draft.

Former Arizona State linebacker Travis Goethel and ex-Michigan State cornerback Jeremy Ware signed, the Raiders announced July 15, 2010. Goethel, 22, was selected by Oakland during in the sixth round (190th overall) of the 2010 NFL draft. Ware, 23, was taken in the seventh round (215th) by the Raiders.

Offensive linemen Jared Valdheer and Bruce Campbell signed, the Raiders announced July 9, 2010. They’re the first of Oakland’s nine 2010 draft picks to finalize contracts. Veldheer, 23, was the Raiders’ third-round pick and Campbell, 22, the first of their two fourth-round selections. Velhdeer played at Hillsdale (Mich.) College, Campbell at Maryland. Both played offensive tackle collegiately. However, Campbell has been converted to guard with Oakland.

Tackle Elliot Vallejo added to the Reserve/Retired list, the Raiders announced July 9, 2010.

Defensive end Richard Seymour signed his exclusive franchise tender, the Raiders announced June 10. By placing the franchise designation on Seymour in February, the Raiders reportedly guaranteed the former New England Patriot a salary for the 2010 season of at least $12.398 million — the average salary earned last season by the five highest-paid defensive ends in the NFL.

Seymour, 31, is expected to join the Raiders when they open training camp July 28 in Napa, California. In the 2009 season, his first season with Oakland, the five-time Pro Bowler contributed four sacks, 47 total tackles (30 solo) and a forced fumble in 15 games.

The Raiders acquired Seymour days before the start of the 2009 regular season by sending a 2011 first-round pick to New England. He reportedly earned about $3.7 million last season. In eight seasons with the Patriots, the former University of Georgia star played on three Super Bowl champions and recorded 39 career sacks.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson signed, according to published reports June 11, 2010. He reportedly received a one-year deal from Oakland. Henderson, 31, has 29.5 career sacks in 124 games, all with the Jaguars. The former University of Tennessee star had 3.0 sacks in 15 games during the 2009 season. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, he has started at least 13 games each of the past eight seasons. Henderson reportedly will start alongside Tommy Kelly in Oakland's 4-3 defense.

Offensive linemen Allen Smith and Elliot Vallejo signed, the Raiders announced June 9, 2010. Smith, 24, played left offensive tackle for Stanford University. He reportedly missed most of the 2007 season and all of the 2008 season with a torn patella tendon. He also missed some games during the 2009 season because of a right knee injury. Vallejo, 26, spent time on the Raiders practice squad last season. He has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.

Former Oregon State wide receiver Damola Adeniji signed, the Raiders announced June 8, 2010. Adeniji, 22, contributed 57 receptions for 807 yards and 5 touchdowns during the 2009 season.

Cornerback Joe Porter signed, the Raiders announced June 5, 2010. Porter, 24, played for the Las Vegas Locomotives in the United Football League during the 2009 season and afterward was signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad.

Defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti signed, the Raiders announced May 17, 2010. Boschetti, 28, took part in Oakland's 2009 training camp before being released Sept. 5. He spent the 2009 season with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League. The former UCLA lineman spent his first five NFL seasons (2004 to 2008) with the Washington Redskins.

Guard Daniel Loper signed, the Raiders announced May 14, 2010, Loper, 28, played in 40 games for the Tennessee Titans from 2006 to 2008 and eight for the Detroit Lions during 2009 season. His only five NFL starts came for the Lions. The five-year veteran from Texas Tech is expected to compete for a backup role behind projected starters Robert Gallery and Cooper Carlisle.

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell released, the Raiders announced May 6, 2010. Russell, 24, had a 7-18 win-loss record after being the top overall choice during the 2007 NFL draft. He threw 18 touchdown passes, 23 interceptions and had a 65.2 passer rating.

Running back Michael Bennett signed, the Raiders announced May 7, 2010. Bennett, 31, has 3,692 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in nine NFL seasons. He spent the past two seasons with the San Diego Chargers.

Cornerback Stanford Routt signed his one-year tender as a restricted free agent, the Raiders announced April 30, 2010. Routt, 26, was the last of Oakland�s restricted free agents to sign his tender.

Fullback Oren O'Neal waived, the Raiders announced April 30, 2010. O'Neal, 26, was Oakland's sixth-round selection in the 2007 NFL draft. He missed the 2007 and 2009 seasons because of serious knee injuries.

Former Washington Redskins running back Rock Cartwright signed, the Raiders announced April 28, 2010. Cartwright, 30, has rushed for 889 yards and six touchdowns during his first eight NFL seasons, all with the Redskins. During the 2009 season, he rushed for 228 yards on 64 carries and caught 27 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. He's considered an accomplished blocker and special teams standout.

Cartwright, Oren O'Neal and Luke Lawton are the only experienced fullbacks currently on the Raiders roster. O'Neal's status is uncertain after he missed all of the 2009 season with the second major knee injury of his NFL career. Lawton is serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances last season. The three-year veteran is ineligible to play until Oakland's third game this season.

Middle linebacker Kirk Morrison traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 24 in exchange for a 2010 fourth-round draft choice, according to published reports. The Jaguars also received a 2010 fifth-round choice from Oakland. The Raiders used the fourth-round pick to select Clemson wide receiver Jacoby Ford on April 24, the final day of the three-day 2010 draft. Morrison, 28, started 79 of 80 games with the Raiders after being a fourth-round draft choice of Oakland in 2005. The former San Diego State star led the Raiders in tackles each of the past five seasons. Morrison became expendable when the Raiders selected Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

Quarterback Jason Campbell acquired in a trade with the Washington Redskins on April 24 in exchange for a 2012 fourth-round draft pick. Campbell, 28, became expendable when new Redskins coach Mike Shanahan traded for quarterback Donovan McNabb on April 4. Campbell threw for career highs of 3,618 yards and 20 touchdowns during the 2009 season.

Defensive end Quentin Groves acquired in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 21 in exchange for a 2010 fifth-round draft choice, the Raiders announced. Groves, 25, didn't have a sack during the 2009 season despite starting seven games after recording 2.5 sacks as a rookie. He played in all 32 games the past two seasons with Jacksonville as a converted linebacker. Groves finished his Auburn University career with 26 sacks, equaling a schooling record.

Linebacker Thomas Howard has signed his restricted free agent tender with the Raiders, the team announced April 16, 2010. The one-year deal reportedly is worth $1.759 million if the five-year veteran makes the team. Howard, who turns 27 July 14, has started 62 of 64 games after being selected by Oakland in the second round of the 2006 draft. The former UTEP star has seven NFL career interceptions, two of which returned for touchdowns.

Former Baltimore Ravens and St. Louis Rams quarterback Kyle Boller signed, the Raiders announced April 15, 2010. Boller, who turns 29 on June 17, has 48 touchdown passes and 50 interceptions in six NFL seasons. He started four games for the Rams during the 2009 season as the primary backup for Marc Bulger. Boller started 42 games in the previous five seasons with the Ravens. The former Cal star has had only one season with more touchdown passes than interceptions (13 to 11 in 2004). He has completed 56.8 percent of his passes with a 70.6 efficiency rating.

The day before the team announced the signing of Boller, Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski reportedly sustained a torn pectoral muscle weightlifting. Gradkowski is among the candidates expected to compete for the starting quarterback position in training camp.

Linebacker Sam Williams re-signed, the Raiders announced April 12, 2010. Williams, 29, reportedly was a key special teams contributor the past few seasons. The former Fresno State defensive end has started 24 of 68 games for Oakland since 2003.

Defensive lineman Chris Cooper signed, the Raiders announced April 6, 2010. Cooper, 32, was not on an NFL team during the 2009 season. He spent three seasons with Oakland after being a sixth-round draft choice of the team in 2001. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound lineman has played for Dallas, San Francisco and Arizona since leaving the Raiders. He spent the 2008 season on injured reserve with the Seattle Seahawks and played with the California Redwoods of the United Football League last season. The former Nebraska-Omaha star has 8.5 sacks in 78 NFL career games.

Offensive tackle Langston Walker re-signed, the Raiders announced April 2, 2010. Walker, 30, started two of seven games he played in with Oakland during the 2009 season. He spent two seasons (2007 & 2008) as a starter with the Buffalo Bills before being released during their 2009 training camp. Walker, who also has played guard during his eight NFL seasons, started 33 games for Oakland at right tackle from 2002 through 2006.

Safety Hiram Eugene re-signed, the Raiders announced March 29, 2010. Eugene, 29, contributed one interception and 38 solo tackles while starting four of 14 games for Oakland during the 2009 season.

Defensive tackle William Joseph, linebacker Ricky Brown and fullback Luke Lawton re-signed, the Raiders announced March 23, 2010.

Joseph, 30, played 14 games over the past two seasons for Oakland. Brown, 26, played only five games at strongside linebacker last season before sustaining a season-ending ankle injury. Lawton, 29, reportedly will be suspended for the first two games this coming season for violating the league's policy against performance enhancing substances. He missed the final two games of the 2009 season.

Quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye, center Jon Morris and long snapper Jon Condo signed their restricted free-agent one-year tenders and will return to the Raiders, according to published reports March 15, 2010.

Gradkowski's deal reportedly is worth $1.759 million. He's expected to compete with JaMarcus Russell for the starting job during training camp. Frye signed for $1.226 million, Condo for $1,684 million and Morris for $1.226 million. Those figures aren't guaranteed.

Outside linebacker Kamerion Wimbley acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, the Raiders announced March 14, 2010. Wimbley, 26, was the 13th overall selection in the 2006 NFL draft. He has 15.5 sacks the past three seasons after recording 11 sacks as a rookie. Oakland reportedly sent a thrid-round draft pick to Cleveland in exchange for Wimberly, a former defensive end at Florida State.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Wimberly started 62 of the 63 games he played for the Browns the past four seasons. He's expected to compete for the starting outside spot shared by Ricky Brown, Sam Williams and Trevor Scott during the 2009 season. Wimberly contributed 6.5 sacks in 2009 for the Browns. Scott and Greg Ellis tied for the Raiders' high of seven sacks last season.

Defensive tackle Gerard Warren released, the Raiders announced March 11, 2010. Warren, 31, started 37 games during his three seasons with the Raiders. He started all 16 games each of the past two seasons.

His release reportedly comes in advance of Oakland being obligated to pay Warren an option bonus of close to $6 million. The nine-year veteran also was scheduled to earn $750,000 in base salary in the 2010 season.

Warren contributed 77 solo tackles and 10 sacks in 44 games with Oakland. He was acquired from the Denver Broncos before the start of the 2007 regular season — the first trade between the rivals since Willie Brown came to the Raiders in 1967.

Second-year players Desmond Bryant and Matt Shaughnessy reportedly are the only legitimate candidates on Oakland's roster to fill the void created by Warren's release.

Wide receiver Javon Walker and defensive end Greg Ellis released, the Raiders announced March 8, 2010.

Walker, 31, was a monumental bust the past two seasons with Oakland after signing a reported $55 million contract in 2008 that included an $11 million signing bonus. He caught 15 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown in two injury-hampered seasons with the Raiders, while being paid a reported $14 million.

Walker played eight games his first season in Oakland before being sidelined by a season-ending ankle injury. He caught no passes in only three games during the 2009 season.

Ellis, 34, signed a two-year contract with Oakland in June of 2009 after being released by Dallas. The 12-year veteran tied for the team lead with seven sacks last season but was hampered during the second half by chronic knee problems. He reportedly was due $2.5 million this season.

Running back Justin Fargas released after he failed a physical, the Raiders announced March 6, 2010. Fargas, 30, reportedly was due a a $1.7 million roster bonus on March 8.

The release of fan-favorite Fargas, right, saves the team approximately $2.5 million and creates more playing time for younger backs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush. Fargas, a third round draft choice by Oakland in 2003, reportedly was due a base salary of $770,000 in the 2010 season.

His best season came in 2007, when he replaced LaMont Jordan as the lead back and rushed for 1,009 yards. The Raiders reportedly rewarded Fargas with a three-year contract that included a $6 million guaranteed.

Fargas started 14 games in 2008 and rushed for a team-high 853 yards. However, his average dropped from 4.5 yards in 2007 to 3.9. He rushed for only 491 yards at a 3.8-yard average in 12 games during the 2009 season.

Overall, the former USC star had 3,369 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns during his first seven NFL seasons.

Former NFL defensive back Kevin Ross named an assistant coach, the Raiders announced March 5, 2010. Ross, 48, spent five NFL seasons as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Vikings and the San Diego Chargers. He finished his 14-season NFL career (1984 to 1997) with 38 interceptions and two Pro Bowl selections. The former Temple star played with Kansas City, Atlanta and San Diego.

The Raiders on March 3 reportedly tendered one-year contract offers to quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, linebackers Kirk Morrison, Thomas Howard and Ricky Brown, and long-snapper Jon Condo, among seven restricted free agents.

Oakland also reportedly extended one-year offers to cornerback Stanford Routt and center Chris Morris.

On March 4, the Raiders reportedly placed one-year tenders on backup quarterback Charlie Frye, fullback Luke Lawton and safety Hiram Eugene.

Oakland declined to place tenders on offensive tackle Khalif Barnes, fullback Gary Russell and linebacker Jon Alston. Lawton reportedly is in the midst of a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Raiders coach Tom Cable told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Feb. 28 that the competition for the quarterback spot next season is "open" among Gradkowski, Russell and whoever else is on the roster.

The Raiders reportedly tendered Gradkowski a second-round level, which guarantees him $1.759 million for 2010 if he signs.

Russell reportedly is scheduled to earn $9.45 million in base salary in 2010.

Morrison received an original-round tender, which means the Raiders are obligated to pay him 110 percent of his 2009 salary, or slightly more than $2.5 million for 2010. As a restricted free agent, the former San Diego State starter can be signed by another team for a third-round draft pick as compensation.

The Raiders reportedly tendered Routt at the first- and third-round level, which guarantees the former Rice star a $3.268 million salary in 2010, or more than five times what he made last season. Routt has been a nickel back throughout his five-season Raiders career.

Frye reportedly received an original-round tender. As a five-year veteran, Frye would earn $1.226 million with Oakland in 2010 if he's on the roster this season. If he receives an offer sheet from another team and the Raiders don't match it, they would receive a third-round pick as compensation.

The Raiders placed the exclusive franchise tag on defensive end Richard Seymour, according to published reports Feb. 25. The exclusive franchise designation prevents Seymour from negotiating with any other teams when the free agency period begins March 5.

The franchise designation guarantees a player the average salary of the five highest-paid players at his position from the previous season. In Seymour's case, that works out to $12.398 million in 2010.

If the average salary for next season is greater than that on April 15, Seymour reportedly will get the new amount.

The whopping one-year salary reportedly would be negated if the Raiders and Seymour agree to a long-term deal.

The Raiders acquired Seymour, 30, from the New England Patriots on Sept. 6, 2009 in exchange for a 2011 first-round pick. He started all 16 games last season and recorded four sacks, but only two in the final 15 games.

The former University of Georgia star reportedly was paid about $3.7 million last season. He was a stalwart for the Patriots after being drafted sixth overall in 2001. He played on three Super Bowl champions with New England, recording 39 career sacks and being selected to the Pro Bowl for five straight seasons starting in 2002.

Assistant coach Clancy Pendergast reportedly resigned Feb. 19 less than two weeks after being hired so that he could become University of California defensive coordinator. The Raiders on Feb. 8 announced the hiring of Pendergast, 42, reportedly to work with defensive backs coach Lionel Washington.

Kicker Sebastian Janikowski re-signed, the Raiders announced Feb. 16, 2010. Janikowski, 32, reportedly received a four-year, $16 million contract. The new deal, which includes $9 million guaranteed, makes Janikowski the league's highest-paid kicker. That matches the terms of the contract the Raiders gave to Shane Lechler in 2009 in making him the league�s highest-paid punter.

Clancy Pendergast hired as defensive backs coach, the Raiders announced Feb. 8, 2010. Pendergast, 42, has coached in the NFL the past 15 seasons, including the past six as a defensive coordinator. He was with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2009 season and the Arizona Cardinals from 2004-08. Pendersgast replaces long-time secondary coach Willie Brown, who announced his retirement soon after the 2009 season ended.

Former Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson named Raiders offensive coordinator, the Raiders announced Jan. 26, 2010. Jackson, 44, reportedly will take over play-calling duties from coach Tom Cable. Oakland didn't have an offensive coordinator in 2009, Cable's first full season as the team's head coach.

"I'm hired as the offensive coordinator, and I'll be the primary play-caller," Jackson told the Ravens team website. "That's my role. It's a chance to go out and assist the head coach and be the best offense we can be."

Jackson's biggest challenge with the Raiders will be to improve the play of quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the top overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft who has been a bust. During the 2009 season, Russell completed 48.8 percent of his passes, with three touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 50.0 passer rating — the lowest in the league since 1998.

Jackson joins his fourth NFL team. He coached previously with the Washington Redskins (2001-2003), Cincinnati Bengals (2004-2006) and Ravens (2007-2009).

Mike Waufle hired as defensive line coach, the Raiders announced Jan. 22, 2010. He held a similiar position with Oakland from 1998 to 2003. He spent the past six seasons with the New York Giants as defensive line coach before being fired Jan. 6. Wauffle, 55, replaces Dwaine Board, who reportedly was not retained after coaching one season with the Raiders.

Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Willie Brown reportedly is retiring after 39 years as a player and coach with the Raiders. Brown, 69, spent the past 15 years as an assistant defensive backs coach and director of squad development.

"Willie shall be remembered as one of the, if not the, greatest Raider players of all time," chief executive Amy Trask said in a statement Jan. 13, 2010. "We will honor Willie in the coming months."

Brown, right, began his pro career with the American Football League's Denver Broncos in 1963. He came to the Raiders in a trade before the 1967 season and spent the next 12 seasons developing a Hall of Fame career. Brown and Lester Hayes share the Raiders franchise record of 39 career interceptions. In his 16 pro seasons, Brown had 54 interceptions and was named to the Pro Bowl nine times.

Brown, perhaps, is best known for intercepting a Fran Tarkenton pass and returning it a Super Bowl-record 75 yards for a touchdown in Oakland's 32-14 Super Bowl XI victory over the Minnesota Vikings at the end of the 1976 season. His record would stand for 29 years until being broken by Kelly Herndon's 76-yard interception return in Super Bowl XL.

Brown, a former Grambling State University star, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1984 and is regarded as one of the best cover corners in NFL history.
