Raiders coach Tom Cable was involved in an altercation with defensive assistant Randy Hanson on Aug 5, according to media reports Aug. 17.

According to AOL Fanhouse.com, Cable punched Hanson.

The Associated Press reported that a report filed with the Napa (Calif.) Police Department describes an unnamed 41-year-old assistant coach being treated at the Queen of the Valley Hospital on Aug. 6 for a jaw injury, which the victim alleges was caused by an unidentified member of the Raiders coaching staff.

Speaking to reporters Aug. 17 at the team's Napa training camp facility, Cable, right, declined to discuss his role in the incident. "It's an internal issue that we are dealing with, and that's all I'm going to say," he said.

One day later, Cable told reporters after a joint practice with the 49ers: "Nothing happened. Listen, you want to talk about this football team and the players on this football team, I'll talk all day. Otherwise, I'm not getting into it."

ESPN.com reported that Hanson broke a facial bone when his cheek hit a cabinet in a team meeting room when Cable flipped him out of his chair. The network also said that Cable reacted when Hanson spoke profanely to defensive coordinator John Marshall. Cable rebuked Hanson, then pushed his chair, which caused the injury.

The AP reported that at the beginning of practice Aug. 17 when the Raiders players were stretching, several broke out into a chant of "Cable, bumaye, Cable, bumaye" in reference to the crowd chants heard by former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali during his 1974 fight against George Foreman.

This is the second reported incident with Hanson, right, involving a Raiders head coach. He reportedly was suspended by then-coach Lane Kiffin after critical comments following a 2008 season-loss to Denver.

The AP reported that Hanson hadn't been seen at the team's training camp facilities since the incident the Aug. 5 incident happened.

Hanson is in his third season with the Raiders. He also spent one season with the St. Louis Cardinals and three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

Hanson reportedly was suspended last season by Kiffin after Hanson was critical of the team's effort in a season-opening loss to Denver. Raiders owner Al Davis intervened on Hanson's behalf and later fired Kiffin.
